The Mountain is out

Mount Rainier-Duwamish

“The mountain is out.”

If you spend time in Seattle or the Puget Sound region, you are bound to hear a local resident utter that statement. There is only one mountain we are referring to and it is Mount Rainier.

On a clear day, there is no Cascade peak that dominates Seattle, Tacoma or other nearby communities like this majestic one. The sight of this mountain can cause us to pause, revel and rejoice.

Her presence, or lack of, affects our disposition. Seeing Mount Rainier means that the day is clear and probably sunny. For often gray Seattle, that makes the mountain a harbinger of hope and promise for a good day.

So the next time the mountain is out (or whatever may be your local equivalent expression), embrace the day! Go for a bike ride, have a picnic in a nearby park or visit the mountain.

  1. What a beautiful scene! It’s still snow covered too! I was surprised – maybe because it has been so awful hot here in Japan. Really pretty- for sure I’d stop and admire it.
