What if a neighborhood got together and threw a gigantic garage sale? Would folks come out for it? The answer is YES.
My West Seattle neighborhood does this annually each May and this was the 14th year for the event. It’s organized by the good people at the West Seattle Blog and this year there were more than 320 registered garage sales.
I make an effort every year to spend some time visiting the garage sales. I’m not in search of great deals (though I have found them). It’s the social aspect that appeals to me. It’s a fun way to meet neighbors and learn something about them. The West Seattle Community Garage Sale builds community. My post from two years ago delved into the community building of the event.
